My campaign for re-election in November 2010 is about qualifications
and experience. This website will tell you about some of mine.
In January of this year, I filed for re-election to a sixth term as
Judge of the 240th Judicial District Court in Fort Bend County,
Texas, subject to the March 2010 Republican Primary. It has been a
privilege and an honor to represent the citizens of Fort Bend County
and the State of Texas since 1977, first as Assistant District
Attorney and for the past twenty-nine years as a trial judge. My
primary obligation as Judge has always been to provide a “level
playing field” for all litigants who appear before me. With so many
new cases filed each year in the 240th District Court, the challenge
remains to continue to manage those cases effectively. More
importantly, each of those cases represents people - plaintiffs,
defendants, victims, and families - each with a right to a fair and
impartial trial.
A District Court is the highest level trial court in the State of
Texas. As your District Judge, I preside over the most serious types
of felony criminal cases, including "death penalty" cases, and large
civil lawsuits, including election law violations, contract
disputes, personal injury damages, and wrongful death claims. As you
can probably imagine, some of the most difficult criminal cases in
my court involve children who have been treated horribly, and
sometimes killed. All victims, and their families, have a right to
be treated with dignity and respect. That has been my goal as a
Judge for the past twenty-nine years and I continually strive to
make that goal a reality. In December 2009, I set the execution date
for a convicted capital murderer. The jury had voted his punishment
unanimously and the State and Federal Appeals Courts have ruled the
jury was correct, but it is my signature alone on that Order. That
great responsibility requires a Judge with knowledge and maturity. I
will never take that responsibility lightly.
Over the past twenty-nine years and seven elections – all without
any Republican or Democratic opposition – I have been honored by the
vote and support of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike.
Again this year, I have no opposition in the March Republican
Primary, but I am asking for your vote on November 2nd. I thank each
of you for your continued trust and support.
